Andrew Peterson is my favorite singer/songwriter. I just bought his newest album, Counting Stars, a few hours ago, and it inspired me to write this song.
I wonder which star You picked for me
when You told that tale to Father Abraham.
Am I tucked inside the Big Dipper’s ladle
or am I hurling out of Orion’s hand?
Either way, I don’t mind.
I just want to know I was on Your mind.
I can’t fit this ocean of space into my brain,
So I guess I’ll have to laugh for Isaac’s sake.
A covenant of light in the midnight black
infallible God and the man made of dust;
infinite love that streams like the sun.
a truth too real and bright to ever lose luster
Peace and grace, I know You shine.
I just want to know I was on Your mind.
I can’t fit this ocean of space into my brain,
so I guess I’ll have to laugh for Isaac’s sake.
I know what You’ve said, but I can’t see.
Your eyes don’t need to adjust to the dark.
True Father God, Whispering Counselor,
I want to see Your Son standing in the stars.
I would block every streetlight, phone, and TV
And let the night be as rich as velvet and deep.
I would stop the sitcoms, grab families by the hand
and show them the glory of Abram’s promised land.
