I am a dreamer; I'm a big-picture person to a fault. I have ambitions of how I am going to help people, how God is going to use me, and how I will change the world.
But, I'm letting go.
You see, it's not about me. It's not about my dreams. This life is not about saving the world, or even about saving a single orphaned child. Yes, I still want to mentor teen moms and adopt difficult kids and learn Spanish and start my own charitible business and be as healthy as my little brother and sell my artwork and get married to someone wonderful and record a CD and see the Northern Lights and go skydiving and serve the Dalits in India, but I'm learning to restructure and rephrase my dreams.
God is teaching me how self-centered I can be in my mindset. These are MY dreams.
But, I'm letting go.
I have a pretty firm grasp on me. I'm a Wineland (artistic, hyperactive, musical, and somewhat intelligent). I'm outgoing, and I love making new friends. I love people. Sometimes, my head gets caught in the clouds. I want everyone to know Christ better, and I strive to do whatever I can to further those relationships. I cry pretty easily. At any given time, I have misplaced something important. I don't like my teeth, and my shoulder always hurts.
But, I'm letting go.
"Then the LORD asked him (Moses), 'What is that in your hand?'
" 'A shepherd's staff,' Moses replied.
" 'Throw it down on the ground,' the LORD told him." (Exodus 4:2-3a)
The LORD asked Moses what he was holding on to, and then told him to throw it down. Moses was a shepherd. His staff identified him, and it was a useful tool. When Moses drops his staff, God transforms it and uses it as evidence of His power.
I'm letting go.
God, take my dreams, take my plans, and take my identity. Do whatever You will with them. Use me. I want nothing other than You, and I need You to help me stop settling for less. Whatever You want me to do, I'll do. Whoever You want me to be, I'll be. I can't do this without Your help, and I don't want to. I know You answer my prayers because I see You do it all the time. God, You can have these hopes and wishes.
My dream is to see You.
